While casinos in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are closing due to the coronavirus outbreak, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun have so far indicated they’re staying open despite canceling. The governor urged a slow approach for reopening Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino later in the summer.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, owner and operator of the Foxwoods Casino in CT, announced a $12.5 million investment to reopen the iconic casino at the Fairmont El San Juan hotel in Isla Verde, to be known as the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. A new COVID-19 testing site is now open at Mohegan Sun Casino. In partnership with Yale New Haven Health and Mohegan Tribe, the casino will offer drive-through community testing at Thames Garage. The site is currently open to the public and casino team members by appointment only. All adults must provide a photo ID and children under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a guardian or parent. In addition to the testing site, a health center is also underway with a planned opening in spring 2021.
